In
this short recessional hymn, God renews both people and the
earth. The trees
clap their hands, the hills melt like wax and the rivers rejoice
as in Psalm 97.5;
Cant.2.8; Isaiah 52.9, 55.12; and Ezekiel 36.35, 47.1-12.
Janes
music is to be played boldly and helps the congregation
to leave the
service with a sense of hope, enlivened and with a spring
in their step. To keep it
snappy, the verses are very short. The refrain uses a hunting-horn
motif. Instead
of calling people to the hunt, it challenges Gods
people to find Christ in the
world. The motif is transposed up on each repeat,
to create a sense of
anticipation. This hymn is particularly suitable for solo
trumpet and organ.
Well-known
New Zealand Methodist hymn writer, Colin Gibson, describes
Go!
as a fine strong hymn in text and setting.
